#234 Lambskin

Unshorn Lambskin - 38” x 22”, Staple length - 5"
$280.00

Hand tanned at Wisconsin’s Driftless Tannery using the natural bark tanning method, the lamb’s true color and curl are accented. Bark tanned skins are washable or may be spot cleaned. Washing and care instructions accompany all purchases.

Our lambswool pelts are fleshed and salted by hand here at Gwenyn Hill. We select one of our trusted U.S. tanneries to professionally finish the process, creating soft, supple, washable luxury for your home. Wool is hypoallergenic and temperature moderating making it a perfect choice for seating or floor covering. Our unique, never-shorn lambskins are exceptionally plush, naturally curly and lustrous. All skins will have some relics of their lives at Gwenyn Hill, in the form of scars, holes or differentiation in wool curl or staple length. Cotswold and Border Leicester wool resists matting and felting.

Registered Cotswolds, Border Leicesters and crosses between them, make up the grass-fed flock at Gwenyn Hill Farm. Selected for their high-quality, lustrous wool, superior flavored meat, calm mothering and ability to thrive on four-season pastures, our sheep epitomize the dual purpose breeds developed in the British Isles.

Our Cotswold breeding program is helping to invigorate the North American line, considered an endangered breed. Once one of the most popular sheep breeds in nineteenth century New England, by 1900 they were nearly extinct, replaced by faster growing meat breeds whose wool production was secondary. With a new appreciation for domestic fiber and meat, the Cotswold breed is worth conserving. We participate in the Livestock Conservancy “Shave ‘em to Save ‘em” program for concerned fiber artists.
